Number of Gender-Based Violence Cases against Indonesian Women 2015-2024

Based on a report by the Indonesian National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), the number of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases against women in Indonesia has fluctuated over the past 10 years, with an upward trend.

In 2015, approximately 204,000 cases were recorded. By 2024, this number had risen to 330,000 cases.

"The year 2024 saw a significant increase, namely 330,097 cases—a 14.17% rise from the previous year—with the majority of cases occurring in the personal sphere," stated Komnas Perempuan in its 2024 Annual Report.

This data was compiled by Komnas Perempuan in collaboration with partner institutions, the number of which varies each year. In 2024, 83 partner institutions were involved in data collection.

According to Komnas Perempuan, in 2024 the majority of GBV cases occurred in the personal sphere, totaling 309,516 cases. Meanwhile, 12,004 cases occurred in the public sphere, and 209 in the state sphere.

The dominance of cases in the personal sphere is due to all GBV data originating from the Religious Court Agency (Badilag) being categorized as personal cases, particularly as reasons for divorce.

Komnas Perempuan also stated that some GBV cases could not be categorized due to an unknown relationship between the victim and perpetrator.

"This can also occur when the number of victims and perpetrators is unequal, such as one perpetrator with multiple victims or vice versa," said Komnas Perempuan.
