Poverty Line in 38 Provinces of Indonesia, March 2025

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in March 2025 there were 23.85 million poor people in Indonesia, equivalent to 8.47% of the total population.

BPS defines poor people as those whose average expenditure is below the poverty line.

The poverty line is a benchmark of minimum expenditure that must be met to avoid being categorized as poor.

In March 2025, the national poverty line reached Rp609,160 per capita per month. This means that people with expenditures below this standard are categorized as poor.

The poverty line varies across provinces. The highest poverty line is in Papua Pegunungan, reaching Rp1.13 million per capita per month.

The following is a list of the 10 provinces with the highest per capita poverty lines in Indonesia in March 2025:

1. Papua Pegunungan: Rp1,132,178 per capita per month

2. Bangka Belitung Islands: Rp956,833

3. North Kalimantan: Rp884,970

4. East Kalimantan: Rp866,193

5. Jakarta: Rp852,768

6. Riau Islands: Rp832,410

7. West Papua: Rp831,001

8. Central Papua: Rp817,834

9. Southwest Papua: Rp812,630

10. Maluku: Rp757,600

Meanwhile, the province with the lowest national poverty line is West Sulawesi, at Rp475,488 per capita per month. This is followed by South Sulawesi at Rp477,966 and Southeast Sulawesi at Rp488,171.
