There are 10,837 Alleged Maladministration Reports in Indonesia in 2024

The Indonesian Ombudsman received 10,837 public reports regarding alleged maladministration throughout 2024. These reports are an accumulation from the central Ombudsman and its provincial representatives.

The reports consist of regular public reports, Ombudsman rapid responses, and self-initiated investigations. Of the 10,837 reports, 10,303 were resolved, exceeding the target of 9,672 reports.

Based on substance, reports related to agrarian issues, personnel matters, and education were the highest. These three areas comprised 39.27% of all reports received by the Ombudsman.

The following are the top 10 most frequently reported issues to the Ombudsman throughout 2024:

1. Agrarian (land and spatial planning): 1,861 reports
2. Employment: 1,354 reports
3. Education: 1,041 reports
4. Transportation and infrastructure: 726 reports
5. Civil and political rights: 680 reports
6. Population administration: 648 reports
7. Police: 623 reports
8. Rural areas: 400 reports
9. Social welfare: 388 reports
10. Health: 325 reports

In 2024, the Ombudsman saved an estimated Rp166.49 billion in potential economic losses. When combined with the totals from 2021-2023, the total reaches almost Rp497 billion.

During the launch of the 2024 Annual Report on May 22, 2025, Ombudsman Chairman Mokhammad Najih emphasized the importance of strengthening the Ombudsman's role in addressing the increasingly complex challenges of public service oversight.

“The revision of the Ombudsman Law has actually been proposed since 2019. This is not merely an administrative revision, but concerns the effectiveness of the Ombudsman as an independent state institution capable of making a real impact in overseeing public services,” he stated, as quoted from the Ombudsman's website.
