Number of Child Victims of Human Trafficking in Indonesia in 2020-2024

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) of the Republic of Indonesia recorded 216 children as victims of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in 2020.

The number rose dramatically in 2021, with 404 children becoming victims. While in 2022 it dropped to 219 children.

Meanwhile, in 2023, KemenPPPA noted that the total number of child victims of TPPO increased again to 206 and in 2024 it reached 220 people. In total, in 2020-2024 there were 1,265 children who were victims of human trafficking in Indonesia.

At the end of December 2024, KemenPPPA collaborated with Polda Metro Jaya to handle cases of violence against women and children as well as the prevention and handling of TPPO.

Deputy Minister of PPPA, Veronica Tan, said the cooperation is not just a short-term solution, but the first step towards a sustainable protection system.

"We want to build a system that continues to run regardless of who is in office. This system must be able to serve the community, especially women and children, with the same standards throughout Indonesia," she said in a press statement.

The cooperation between KemenPPPA and Polda Metro Jaya resulted in a strategic plan, including the establishment of a special integrated post for TPPO and training to improve the quality of human resources in handling cases of violence against women and children.
