Cases of Child Abuse in Indonesia Increased Until 2024

Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), reports of violence against children in Indonesia have steadily increased over the past five years.

In 2020, KemenPPPA received 11,264 reports related to such cases. The most prevalent type of violence was sexual violence, with 6,969 child victims; followed by 2,899 victims of physical violence, and 2,734 victims of psychological violence.

In 2021, cases of violence against children rose to 14,446 reports. That year, 8,730 children were victims of sexual violence, 3,602 of psychological violence, and 3,437 of physical violence.

The number of cases increased again in 2022 to 16,106 reports. KemenPPPA recorded 9,588 child victims of sexual violence, 4,162 victims of psychological violence, and 3,746 victims of physical violence.

The upward trend continued in 2023, reaching 18,175 reports, with sexual, psychological, and physical violence again accounting for the highest number of victims.

In 2023, KemenPPPA recorded 10,932 child victims of sexual violence, 4,511 victims of psychological violence, and 4,410 victims of physical violence.

The number of cases further increased in 2024 to 19,628 reports. The number of victims of sexual violence reached 11,771 children, physical violence 4,890 children, and psychological violence 4,838 children.
