Global wealth in 2017 rose by US$16.7 trillion, or 6.4 percent, to US$280.3 trillion compared to US$263 trillion the previous year. According to the Credit Suisse Research Institute's *Global Wealth Report 2017*, this increase was the fastest since 2012. Compared to the period since the 2007 crisis, global wealth grew by 30 percent.
The wealth of affluent Americans in 2017 reached US$93.56 trillion, a 10 percent increase from the previous year. China followed with the wealth of its affluent population reaching US$29 trillion, a 6.3 percent increase year-on-year. Of the 10 countries with the highest total wealth, only two experienced a decline: Japan and the United Kingdom.
The United States still has the highest number of billionaires, reaching 15,356, up from 14,256 previously, and is projected to reach 17,784 in 2022. However, Switzerland maintains the highest average wealth per adult among the wealthy population, at US$229,000, while the United States averages US$55,876 per adult.
