There were 264,000 drug suspects in Indonesia over the past 5 years.

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) have named 264,188 suspects in narcotics cases from 2020 to the third quarter of 2024. From these cases, police have seized evidence worth Rp31.87 trillion.

"If this were to spread throughout society, it would impact approximately 262 million people whom we could save from the influence and dangers of narcotics," said National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo in a working meeting with Commission III of the DPR (House of Representatives) on Monday, November 11, 2024.

This year alone, the Polri has seized narcotics evidence including 4.9 tons of methamphetamine; 4.9 tons of cannabis; 2 hectares of cannabis cultivation areas; 69 grams of heroin; 10,760 grams of cocaine; 32,900 grams of hashish; 3.79 million ecstasy pills; and 1.5 tons of Gorilla tobacco.

Currently, the Polri has several short-term plans to eradicate narcotics in Indonesia, such as border area security, digital transformation, improving investigator quality, and massively establishing drug-free villages.

"Similarly, for medium-term plans, we will develop narcotics task forces in all regional police headquarters (Polda) and 75% of district/city police headquarters (Polres)," said Sigit.

The Polri also stated that it has collaborated with 30 countries to detect narcotics shipments from foreign traffickers.
