Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in West Kutai Decreased by 3.76% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Kutai Barat Regency, East Kalimantan, was 12.63% in 2023.

This figure is down 3.76% from the previous year's 16.39%, and down 2.07% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Kutai Barat Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in Kutai Barat Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient, does not reach 12.63% of the total population.

Compared to nine other regencies/cities in East Kalimantan Province, Kutai Barat Regency ranks 8th in terms of PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Bontang City (6.95%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Penajam Paser Utara Regency (16.34%).
