Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, June 9, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (June 9, 2024) at 09.00 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 29 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 31 millimeters and a duration of 199 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on June 9, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 209-415 seconds.

Then, 2 harmonic quakes with an amplitude of 3.7-5.1 millimeters and a duration of 55-70 seconds, and 2 low-frequency quakes with an amplitude of 3.7-14 millimeters and a duration of 15-30 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 945 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (382 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 168 times.
