Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Selayar Islands Increased by 28.39% in the Last 5 Years

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Kepulauan Selayar Regency, South Sulawesi, reached 8.14% in 2023.

This figure is down 5.46% from the previous year's 13.6%, while it has increased by 1.8% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Kepulauan Selayar Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in Kepulauan Selayar Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy needs does not reach 8.14% of the total population.
