Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, March 18, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 07:48 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 5 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 800 meters above the peak or 1,887 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with moderate to thick intensity towards the southeast and south. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 18, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 340 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 31.69-99.31 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 34 millimeters, S-P times of 26.87-31.66 seconds, and durations of 75.17-81.64 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-5 millimeters, predominantly 2 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,270 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,038 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 43 times.
