Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, August 19, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) at 7:28 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 7 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 70 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on August 19, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 118 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 9-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 45.53-52.76 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-10 millimeters and durations of 34.21-36.77 seconds, and 22 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 24.36-138.33 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,696 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,282 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,090 times.
