Based on forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring over the last 24 hours detected 13,727 hotspots across Indonesia. This count increased by 972 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data was obtained from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Friday, 28 August 2026 at 11:36 WIB. Of the 13,727 detected hotspots: 886 have high confidence level, 12,136 medium, and 705 low confidence level.

Hotspot confidence is classified into 3 tiers: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). Higher hotspot confidence indicates greater likelihood of active forest and land fires in the area.

Central Kalimantan recorded the highest count at 5,379 hotspots, followed by West Kalimantan (2,383) and South Sumatra (1,492).

East Kalimantan detected 829 hotspots, South Kalimantan 795, while East Java and Bangka Belitung Islands recorded 295 and 270 hotspots respectively.

Hotspots are coordinate points with higher surface temperature than surrounding areas; they do not represent the total number of fire incidents.

However, clustered or high volume hotspots indicate active forest and land fires. Satellite-detected hotspot data remains the most effective method for large-area wildfire monitoring.
