Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, August 25, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (8/25/2025) at 00:01 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. Mount Ibu''s eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, Mount Ibu''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on August 25, 2025, at 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 131 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 38.36-66.79 seconds.

Then, 1 exhalation earthquake with an amplitude of 3 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 31.68 seconds, and 20 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 34.17-170.36 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a radius of 2 kilometers and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu''s active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,779 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,309 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,120 times.
