Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning, Volcanic Ash Reaches Approximately 1,100 Meters

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 7:05 a.m. WIT. This is the second eruption in the last week.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 1,100 meters above the peak (2,187 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the south and southwest. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Dukono's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations from April 8, 2025, 00:00-23:59 WIT, showed 207 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 35.41-340 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 volcanic quake with an amplitude of 15 millimeters, an s-p time of 1.95 seconds, and a duration of 29.61 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-5 millimeters, predominantly 3 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists to refrain from activities, climbing, and approaching the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,671 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,235 times), while Mount Dukono erupted 75 times.
