The Credit Suisse Research Institute, in its annual report titled *Global Wealth Report 2018*, notes that the average wealth of Indonesian adults this year fell by 4.05% to US$8,919 (Rp 134 million) compared to the previous year. Similarly, the total adult wealth (170.22 million individuals) decreased by 2.5% to US$1.52 trillion from the previous year.
According to the report, the average adult wealth in 2018 surged by 276.3% compared to its 2000 level. Similarly, the total adult wealth in Indonesia also increased by 414.58% from 2000. However, the average wealth of Indonesian adults lags behind neighboring countries such as Thailand (US$9,969), Malaysia (US$27,970), and Singapore (US$283,118).
85.4% (145 million) of Indonesia's adult population possesses wealth of less than US$10,000 or less than Rp 150 million. Furthermore, 13.7% (23.32 million) of adults have wealth between US$10,000 and US$100,000, 0.8% (1.36 million) have wealth between US$100,000 and US$1 billion, and 0.1% (170,000) of the population possesses wealth exceeding US$1 billion.
