Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, August 18, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (8/18/2025) at 4:22 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 10 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 800 meters above the peak or 2,384 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismic observations on August 18, 2025, from 06:00-12:00 WITA showed 5 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 14.8-47.3 millimeters and a duration of 155-554 seconds.

Then, 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 mm and a duration of 70 seconds, and 6 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-44 millimeters and durations of 30-41 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activity within a radius of 6 kilometers and a sectoral area of 7 kilometers to the West-North-Northeast from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,679 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,276 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 466 times.
