Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Barru Decreased by 0.39% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi was 8.31% in 2025.

This figure decreased by 0.39% from the previous year's 8.7%, while in the last 5 years it has decreased by 2.12%.

Indonesia's average PoU in 2025 was 7.89%. This means that the PoU in Barru Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to see the condition of food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the residents of Barru Regency who consume food but do not meet their energy needs make up less than 8.31% of the total population.

Compared to the other 23 regencies/cities in South Sulawesi Province, Barru Regency's PoU ranks 19th. The regions with the lowest PoU (top ranks) are Pangkajene and Islands Regency (2.9%) and the highest (last rank) is Jeneponto Regency (12.74%).
