10 Regencies/Cities in Bali with the Highest Poverty Rates

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of poor people in Bali increased by 36,780 to 201,970 in March 2021 compared to March 2020. Similarly, the percentage of the population living below the poverty line in the province increased to 4.53% in March of that year compared to the previous year.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of social restrictions paralyzed the tourism sector in Bali. As a result, the number of Balinese living below the poverty line increased in the last year.

The regency/city with the highest poverty rate in Bali is Karangasem Regency, at 6.78% in March 2021. This figure is higher than the poverty rate for Bali province and also higher than that of eight other regencies.

Buleleng Regency is second with a poverty rate of 6.12%, followed by Klungkung Regency at 5.64%, Tabanan Regency at 5.12%, and Bangli Regency at 5.09%.

The next regencies/cities with the largest populations below the poverty line are Jembrana Regency at 5.06%, followed by Gianyar Regency at 4.85%, and Denpasar City at 2.96%. Badung Regency is the area in Bali with the lowest poverty rate, at only 2.62%.
