Indonesia Classified as a Country with a Serious Hunger Level

Indonesia is one of the countries with a serious level of hunger in the world, with a Global Hunger Index (GHI) score of 21.9. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia only performs better than Laos and Myanmar. Meanwhile, Malaysia's hunger level is considered low, with an index score below 10.

In 2016, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) recorded that the hunger levels of 50 countries worldwide were categorized as serious and alarming. A country is categorized as having a serious hunger level if it receives a GHI score between 20 and 34.4, while a country with an alarming hunger level receives a score between 35 and 49.9. Based on this IFPRI index, alarming hunger levels are prevalent in many African countries.

The Global Hunger Index is a multidimensional statistical tool used to describe a country's hunger situation. This index is directly related to the basic physiological needs of humans, namely the fulfillment of food and nutritional needs. The index is updated annually. The GHI measures a country's progress and failures in the global fight against hunger.
