Higher Education Level, Higher Happiness Index

The 2021 Happiness Index report shows a correlation between higher education levels and higher happiness levels. This is evident in the happiness index scores: those with no formal education scored the lowest at 66.94, while those with postgraduate degrees (S2/S3) achieved a score of 82.16.

Individuals who completed basic education reported happiness levels above 70. Those with primary school (SD) equivalent education had a happiness level of 70.1, junior high school (SMP) equivalent 71.3, and senior high school (SMA) equivalent 73.31.

Furthermore, those with higher education reported happiness levels above 75. Diploma I, II, and III graduates had a happiness index of 76.03, and Diploma IV/Bachelor's degree (S1) graduates had an index of 78.05.

This Happiness Index, compiled by BPS (Statistics Indonesia), comprises three dimensions: life satisfaction, feelings, and meaning of life. The scores for each dimension also show a positive correlation with higher education levels.

Overall, Indonesia's happiness index reached 71.49 in 2021, an increase from 70.49 in 2017. North Maluku (Maluku Utara) had the highest happiness index score at 76.34.
