The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that Israeli military forces attacked the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
"On November 20, the Indonesian hospital in Beit Lahiya (North Gaza) was attacked, reportedly resulting in at least 12 deaths, including patients and their companions, as well as numerous injuries," OCHA stated in its report on Monday, November 20, 2023.
According to OCHA, this is the fifth attack on the Indonesian hospital since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023.
OCHA reports that the Indonesian hospital is now besieged, preventing patients and staff from leaving. The hospital is without electricity due to a fuel shortage, in addition to shortages of water, medicine, and other essential supplies.
OCHA also notes that the military attacks on the hospital violate international law.
"Hospitals and medical personnel are specifically protected under International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and all parties to the conflict must ensure their protection," OCHA stated.
"Hospitals must not be used to shield military objectives. Any military operation in or around a hospital must be accompanied by measures to save and protect patients, medical staff, and civilians," it continued.
In addition to attacking the Indonesian hospital, Israeli military forces continue to bombard various other areas in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), by the 45th day of the war, November 20, 2023, the number of Palestinian casualties in the Gaza Strip reached 13,300, an increase of 300 from the previous day.
PCBS also recorded 216 Palestinian deaths in the West Bank. Combined with the Gaza Strip, the total number of Palestinian casualties in this war reaches 13,516.
On the other hand, according to data compiled by OCHA, up to November 20, 2023, Israeli casualties reached 1,271, approximately ten times fewer than Palestinian casualties.
