Johnny G Plate, Minister of Communication and Informatics, has been named a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) 4G infrastructure supporting packages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of BAKTI Kominfo 2020-2022. This status was determined after he was questioned by the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, until 12:10 WIB.
According to *Katadata*, Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, Head of the Agency for the Supervision of Finance and Development (BPKP), revealed that the total state losses from the Kominfo BTS project, based on an audit, reached Rp8 trillion (approximately US$533 million).
"The state financial losses consist of three things: costs for supporting study preparation, price markups, and financing for the construction of BTS that has not been built," said Ateh during a press conference at the Attorney General's Office, Central Jakarta, on Monday, May 15, 2023.
Plate's designation as a suspect adds to the list of ministers implicated in corruption cases during the Joko Widodo (Jokowi) administration. Who are they?
* Juliari Batu Bara
Juliari Batu Bara, former Minister of Social Affairs, was involved in a corruption case related to social assistance (bansos) during the Covid-19 pandemic. This PDI-P politician received bribes totaling Rp32.4 billion (approximately US$2.16 million) from social assistance providers.
*CNN Indonesia* reported that Juliari received a 12-year prison sentence. The Corruption Court also revoked his political rights for four years. The amount of bribes received by Juliari is estimated to be the largest compared to other Jokowi ministers implicated in corruption cases.
* Imam Nahrawi
Imam Nahrawi, who served as Minister of Youth and Sports, was implicated in a bribery case involving government assistance to the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) in the 2018 fiscal year. Imam Nahrawi was found to have received bribes totaling Rp26.5 billion (approximately US$1.77 million).
Imam was sentenced to seven years in prison and a fine of Rp400 million (approximately US$26,667), with a subsidiary sentence of 3 months imprisonment. The Corruption Court also revoked Imam's political rights for four years.
* Edhy Prabowo
The former Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries was involved in a bribery case related to the issuance of permits for lobster cultivation and the export permits for lobster seeds (BBL).
Edhy was charged with receiving bribes totaling US$77,000 (approximately Rp1.12 billion) and Rp24.62 billion (approximately US$1.64 million) in Indonesian Rupiah. The total amount received by the Gerindra politician is estimated at Rp25.74 billion (approximately US$1.72 million).
Although his sentence was initially increased, Edhy received a lighter sentence on appeal. Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) stated that the Supreme Court (MA) reduced Edhy's sentence to 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp400 million (approximately US$26,667) with a subsidiary sentence of 6 months imprisonment. "From this, the anti-corruption commitment of the judicial branch is increasingly questionable," said ICW.
* Idrus Marham
According to *Katadata*, Idrus Marham, former Minister of Social Affairs, was sentenced to three years by the Corruption Criminal Court (Tipikor). He was found guilty of corruption in the construction of the Riau 1 Mouth Mine PLTU and was proven to have received bribes of Rp2.25 billion (approximately US$150,000) from Johannes Kotjo, a shareholder of Blackgold Natural Resource Ltd.
Idrus's sentence was increased to five years on appeal. However, on cassation, Idrus's sentence was reduced to two years. He was released on September 11, 2020.
