Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight, Ash Column Reaches 800 Meters Above Peak

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) at 21:07 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 8 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is around 800 meters above the peak (2,384 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 92 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 14, 2026, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 60 seconds.

Then, 5 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-22.2 millimeters and durations of 31-37 seconds, as well as 10 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 67-170 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,473 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (793 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 28 times.
