An elementary school student in Tasikmalaya, West Java, recently died after being forced to have sexual intercourse with a cat by his friends. This bullying incident allegedly caused the victim severe depression, leading to illness and ultimately death.

The number of children facing legal consequences consistently remained above 100 per year from 2016 to 2019.

The number then dropped to 69 children in 2020, with 58 children as perpetrators of physical violence and 11 children as perpetrators of psychological violence.

According to KPAI, this problem is not only the responsibility of parents and families but also a major challenge for educational institutions.

"The phenomenon of exposure to highly repressive violence enters children's lives through various media. Of course, in this day and age, schools need to assess the mental state of each student," explained KPAI Commissioner Jasra Putra on the official website.
