Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in the Arfak Mountains Decreased by 6.6% in the Last Year

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Pegunungan Arfak Regency, West Papua, was 48.23% in 2023.

This figure is down 6.6% from the previous year's 54.83%, while over the last five years it has decreased by 0.18%.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Pegunungan Arfak Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes insufficient food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that in Pegunungan Arfak Regency, the percentage of the population whose food consumption does not meet their energy needs does not reach 48.23% of the total population. The 48.23% figure represents the prevalence of undernourishment, not the percentage of the population completely lacking sufficient energy from food.
