Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, September 30, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (9/30/2025) at 9:22 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 20 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column was approximately 600 meters above the peak (2,184 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 108 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM WITA, showed 4 eruption/explosive earthquakes with amplitudes of 10.5-22.2 millimeters and durations of 84-176 seconds.

Then, 4 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and durations of 31-37 seconds, and 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 82 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,474 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,537 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 663 times.
