Food Insecurity Prevalence in Mappi Reaches 48.88% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Mappi Regency, South Papua, was 48.88% in 2023.

This figure is up 9.34% from the previous year's 39.54%, and up 8.27% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Mappi Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that in Mappi Regency, the percentage of the population consuming insufficient food to meet their energy needs is 48.88% of the total population.
