The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.71 million cases by Friday, June 9, 2023. Mongolia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 6.15 percent. GISAID recorded 829 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.47 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is China (PRC), which recorded a 4.6 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.84 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Ukraine increased by 4.58 percent to 2,650 cases compared to the previous week; in Brunei Darussalam, Omicron cases increased by 3.8 percent to 5,686 cases compared to the previous week; and in France, Omicron cases increased by 363,800 (up 2.48%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded today is 38,102, a decrease of 0.01 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
