This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 16 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Cyprus, Myanmar, Armenia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Monday, October 10, 2022, was 272, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 11.66 percent.
Cyprus ranks first, with a 150 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded five deaths in the country, up from two the previous week.
Myanmar follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country increased by 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was six. Armenia saw a 100% increase in deaths, Vietnam a 33.33% increase, and the Philippines recorded 249 deaths (an 11.66% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 510 deaths. This represents a 19.56% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan reported 364 deaths (an 8.66% increase), the Philippines 249 deaths (an 11.66% increase), South Korea 201 deaths (a 27.17% decrease), and India 126 deaths (a 26.32% decrease).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 1,744. This accounts for 20.93 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 8,332. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which saw 2,048 deaths.
