The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) report shows that international travel policies in 217 countries began to ease on June 1, 2021, compared to mid-2020. However, several countries still chose not to fully open their international borders, similar to the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Specifically, 34% of countries worldwide began easing international travel restrictions with a partial opening policy. 36% of countries allowed tourists to enter with Covid-19 testing and quarantine.
Furthermore, 1% of countries dared to lift travel bans. Meanwhile, 29% of countries still completely closed their international borders to tourism.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the majority, or 70%, of countries still completely closed their borders. Only 21% of countries began partially closing their borders. Meanwhile, 9% of countries implemented mandatory Covid-19 testing and quarantine policies.
31% of Middle Eastern countries have yet to open their international borders to visitors. However, 46% of countries in the region only partially closed their borders for international tourism. Meanwhile, 23% of countries still implemented Covid-19 testing and quarantine upon arrival.
Conversely, American countries began easing their policies. 66% of countries accepted international visits with Covid-19 testing and quarantine. Meanwhile, 59% of European countries only partially closed their borders.
