A report from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) shows that the average bed occupancy rate (BOR) in national Covid-19 referral hospitals was 32% as of Thursday, March 3, 2022. However, this figure is lower than the national Covid-19 hospital BOR the previous week, which was 38%.
The highest national Covid-19 hospital BOR was in Yogyakarta Special Region, reaching 53%. Although quite high, this percentage remains below the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of 60%.
Following Yogyakarta were Central Sulawesi and Central Java, with Covid-19 hospital BOR percentages of 43% each. South Sumatra, West Java, and East Kalimantan each had a Covid-19 hospital BOR of 38%.
Although the Covid-19 hospital BOR is trending downward, Covid-19 transmission remains quite widespread in several regions. Furthermore, the currently prevalent Omicron variant has significantly higher transmissibility than other Covid-19 variants.
The Covid-19 Task Force report indicates that there were 531,696 active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia as of Thursday, March 3, 2022.
Therefore, the public is urged to consistently adhere to health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and washing hands with soap. These protocols are crucial for preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
