This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Philippines, Iran (Islamic Republic), the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, and Sri Lanka. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, July 27, 2022, amounted to 282, with a weekly growth exceeding 120 percent.
The Philippines recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 5,200 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 53 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported single death.
Following the Philippines is Iran (Islamic Republic) in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 151.85 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at 204. The United Arab Emirates recorded seven deaths (up 133.33%), Georgia also recorded seven deaths (up 133.33%), and deaths in Sri Lanka increased by 120%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 425 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 11.64% compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, India reported the second highest number of deaths with 325 (up 22.18%), Japan with 291 deaths (up 76.36%), Iran (Islamic Republic) with 204 deaths (up 151.85%), and Thailand with 176 deaths (up 18.12%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 2,069. This accounts for 17.25 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 11,995. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,647 deaths.
