The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.23 million cases by Thursday, October 27, 2022. Mali recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 80.7 percent. GISAID recorded 103 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 80.7 percent compared to the previous day.
Kuwait followed in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 8.05 percent. The daily increase in Omicron cases in the country rose by 8.05 percent compared to the previous day, which recorded 348 cases.
Furthermore, the increase in Omicron cases in North Korea rose by 6.51 percent to 58,864 cases compared to the previous week; in Russia, the increase was 4.68 percent, reaching 19,308 cases compared to the previous week; and in Malaysia, there were 20,261 additional Omicron cases (a 3.71% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the addition of Omicron cases up to today's data is recorded at 25,034 cases, a 1.2 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
