This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 11 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Serbia, Croatia (Hrvatska), and Bulgaria. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, April 12, 2023, was 330, with a weekly growth rate above -12.5 percent.
Bosnia and Herzegovina ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 90 percent. Worldometer recorded 19 deaths in this country, up from 10 the previous week.
Next is Russia, which recorded 8.4 percent more deaths than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 258, up from 238 the previous week. Deaths in Serbia increased by 6.25%, Croatia (Hrvatska) recorded 22 deaths (down 12%), and Bulgaria recorded 14 deaths (down 12.5%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany, with 428 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 21.03% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, Russia recorded 258 deaths (up 8.4%), France recorded 121 deaths (down 25.77%), Poland recorded 45 deaths (down 60.18%), and Romania recorded 44 deaths (down 25.42%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 1,025. This accounts for 49.56 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,068. The number of deaths in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,293 deaths.
