This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 12 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 17 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Singapore, Kazakhstan, Georgia, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, August 9, 2022, was 161, with weekly growth exceeding 50 percent.
Singapore ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 105.26 percent. Worldometer recorded 39 deaths in the country, an increase from 19 the previous week.
Next is Kazakhstan, which recorded a 100 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as two, compared to one the previous week. Deaths in Georgia increased by 100%, the Philippines by 80 (up 86.05%), and Sri Lanka by 50%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,002 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 43.14% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the Islamic Republic of Iran reported 463 deaths (up 34.99%), India reported 334 deaths (up 4.37%), Taiwan reported 302 deaths (down 3.82%), and South Korea reported 216 deaths (up 21.35%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 3,085. This accounts for 22.31 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 13,826. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,605.
