This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 20 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Myanmar, Armenia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Pakistan. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of September 25, 2022, amounted to 160, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 16.67 percent.
Myanmar ranks first, with a 350 percent weekly increase in deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded nine deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's two deaths.
Armenia follows with a weekly growth in deaths of 42.86 percent. The country reported 10 deaths, compared to seven the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Malaysia saw a 29.03% increase in deaths, Hong Kong recorded 94 deaths (a 17.5% increase), and Pakistan saw a 16.67% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Japan recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 830 fatalities. This represents a 31.97% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 352 deaths (down 0.28%), Taiwan recorded 274 deaths (up 7.87%), the Philippines recorded 251 deaths (up 11.06%), and India recorded 185 deaths (down 1.07%).
A total of 2,436 deaths were recorded across Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 26.68 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 9,129. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,898 deaths.
