The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.92 million cases by Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Kosovo recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 13.82 percent. GISAID recorded 807 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.12 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Venezuela, which recorded an 11.48 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 4.95 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Greece with 15,348 additional Omicron cases (up 8.73%), Ukraine with 1,840 additional Omicron cases (up 7.67%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) with 2,107 additional Omicron cases (up 6.58%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 35,238, a 0.36 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
