The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.77 million cases by Friday, March 31, 2023. Hungary recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 7.87 percent. GISAID recorded 411 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 7.87 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Ukraine, which recorded a 5.31 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 2.11 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Kosovo reported 713 additional Omicron cases (up 3.94%), Singapore reported 20,830 additional Omicron cases (up 2.41%), and Germany saw a 2.37 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 563,880 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 34,887, a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
