Sri Mulyani, Minister of Finance, has approved the entrance ticket prices for the Borobudur Temple complex located in Magelang, Central Java.
This decision resolves the controversy surrounding the previously proposed increase in entrance fees to Rp100,000 per person.
Sri Mulyani's decision is outlined in Minister of Finance Regulation (Permenkeu) Number 42/2023 concerning the Service Tariff of the Borobudur Authority Public Service Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, enacted in Jakarta on April 26, 2023.
Article 2 states that service tariffs consist of land rental fees, entrance fees, utility and supporting infrastructure services, and supporting service fees.
Entrance fees range from Rp4,000 to Rp15,000 per person. Parking fees range from Rp5,000 to Rp25,000 per vehicle. All tariffs are for single entry.
Land rental fees have a basic compensation starting from Rp11,000 to Rp62,000 per square meter per year.
However, foreign nationals (WNA) or foreign tourists may be charged up to 200% of the established service tariff.
"The criteria, amount of tariffs, and procedures for determining service tariffs as referred to in paragraph (1) are determined by the President Director of the Borobudur Authority Public Service Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy," states Article 12 of the regulation.

One point to highlight is Article 13, which states that users accessing services on weekends, national holidays, or peak holiday seasons may be charged up to 150% of the established service tariff.
On the other hand, there are several conditions that may exempt citizens from entrance fees. These include state events; search and rescue operations for natural disasters and humanitarian aid; public and social interests; special missions from the government; regional, national, and/or international missions that are non-commercial.
Users exempt from entrance fees include MSMEs, local residents, tour agents, and other specified service users.
It should be noted that the price set is only for entrance to the Borobudur Temple complex. Further details regarding the established regulations have not yet been released.
