This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Twelve countries recorded increased deaths this week, while eleven others reported deaths, but in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, South Korea, Pakistan, India, and Iran (Islamic Republic). The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, July 14, 2022, amounted to 420, with a weekly growth exceeding 59.26 percent.
Hong Kong ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 114.29 percent. Worldometer recorded 15 deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported seven deaths.
Next is South Korea, which recorded deaths 100 percent higher than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 92, higher than the previous week's 46. Pakistan reported 21 deaths (up 90.91%), India reported 249 deaths (up 61.69%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) reported 43 deaths (up 59.26%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan with 652 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 5.51% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths in India was recorded at 249 (up 61.69%), Thailand at 146 (up 17.74%), Israel at 117 (up 39.29%), and Japan at 113 (up 10.78%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,644. This accounts for 15.69 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,478. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,513.
