This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Seven countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while eight others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Canada, Guyana, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago. A total of 204 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Thursday, September 22, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 28.57%.
Canada recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 138.03%. Worldometer recorded 169 deaths in the country, up from 71 the previous week.
Guyana followed with a 100% weekly increase in deaths. Two deaths were reported, compared to one the previous week.
Rounding out the top five were Uruguay with seven deaths (up 75%), Paraguay with eight deaths (up 60%), and Trinidad and Tobago with 18 deaths (up 28.57%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was recorded in the United States, with 1,476 deaths. This represents a 31.38% decrease compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil reported 512 deaths (up 3.64%), Peru reported 208 deaths (up 8.9%), Canada reported 169 deaths (up 138.03%), and Mexico reported 153 deaths (down 3.77%).
A total of 2,735 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 30.59% of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 8,942. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 3,467 deaths.
