This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decrease in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Five countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while eight others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Paraguay, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Chile. A total of 188 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Monday, November 7, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 6.25%.
Paraguay had the highest weekly increase in deaths, at 66.67%. Worldometer recorded five deaths in the country, up from three the previous week.
Colombia reported a 30% increase in deaths compared to the previous week, with 13 more deaths than the previous week's total of 10. Guatemala saw a 17.65% increase, Ecuador recorded 14 deaths (a 16.67% increase), and Chile reported 136 deaths (a 6.25% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas was in the United States, with 1,332 deaths—a 0.75% decrease compared to the previous week. Brazil followed with 270 deaths (a 43.16% decrease), Chile with 136 deaths (a 6.25% increase), Peru with 64 deaths (a 32.63% decrease), and Mexico with 23 deaths (a 62.3% decrease).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 1,900. This accounts for 25.73% of the global Covid-19 death toll of 7,384. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,432 deaths.
