This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Eight countries recorded an increase in deaths this week, while five others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Canada, and Colombia. A total of 415 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Wednesday, November 9, 2022, representing weekly growth exceeding 30 percent.
Uruguay recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 166.67 percent. Worldometer recorded eight deaths in the country, an increase from the three reported the previous week.
Chile follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 76 percent. 176 deaths were reported, compared to 100 the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Paraguay saw a 66.67% increase in deaths, Canada recorded 213 deaths (a 36.54% increase), and Colombia saw a 30% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,188 deaths. This represents a 2.14% decrease compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil reported 239 deaths (down 49.47%), Canada recorded 213 deaths (up 36.54%), Chile reported 176 deaths (up 76%), and Peru reported 86 deaths (down 36.3%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days reached 2,014. This accounts for 27.47 percent of global deaths attributed to the COVID-19 virus, totaling 7,332. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,216 deaths.
