COVID-19 data statistics in Asia this week still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 13 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iraq, Maldives, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. The total deaths in these five countries as of Sunday, July 3, 2022, amounted to 50, with a weekly growth exceeding 171.43 percent.
Iraq recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 1,200 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 13 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week, which reported only one death.
Following Iraq is the Maldives in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 400 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as five, while the previous week recorded one death.
Rounding out the top five are Pakistan with 10 deaths (up 233.33%), Vietnam with three deaths (up 200%), and Bangladesh with deaths increasing by 171.43%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan with 803 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 25.02% compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, India recorded 194 deaths (up 34.72%), Japan recorded 190 deaths (up 82.69%), Thailand recorded 105 deaths (down 19.23%), and the Philippines recorded 58 deaths (up 45%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,606. This accounts for 16.55 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 9,706. The death toll in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 1,748.
