This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Five countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while 13 others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Panama, Honduras, Canada, Guatemala, and Brazil. A total of 1,917 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Saturday, August 13, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 6.17 percent.
Panama recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 100 percent. Worldometer recorded two deaths in the country, a 33.33 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Honduras followed with a 75 percent weekly increase in deaths. Daily death figures in the country increased by 16.67% compared to the previous day, recording 12 deaths.
Furthermore, deaths in Canada increased by 25.91%, Guatemala recorded 109 deaths (up 19.78%), and Brazil recorded 1,515 deaths (up 6.17%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was recorded in the United States, with 2,640 deaths. Death reports in the US decreased by 2.76% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded 1,515 deaths (up 6.17%), Mexico recorded 468 deaths (down 22.39%), Peru recorded 344 deaths (down 1.99%), and Canada recorded 277 deaths (up 25.91%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were recorded at 5,853. This accounts for 37.82 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 15,474 deaths. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 5,985 deaths.
