The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.45 million cases by Wednesday, July 13, 2022. According to GISAID data, Cyprus recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 465 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Cyprus currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Next is the Turks and Caicos Islands, which recorded a 100 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 100 percent increase in Omicron cases in the country compared to the previous day.
Then, Belize reported 318 additional Omicron cases (a 32.5% increase), Réunion reported 4,372 additional Omicron cases (a 23.71% increase), and Barbados saw a 23.08 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 32 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased by 0.87 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 15,088 cases. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
