In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Panama, Honduras, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil. A total of 1,688 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Saturday, August 13, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 0.28 percent.
Panama recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with a weekly growth of 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, up from one the previous week.
Honduras followed in second place, with a 50 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. Yesterday's daily death toll in Honduras was 12. Argentina reported 30 deaths (up 15.38%), Colombia 212 deaths (up 7.07%), and Brazil 1,431 deaths (up 0.28%).
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas was in the United States, with 2,465 deaths. This represents a 9.21% decrease compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded 1,431 deaths (up 0.28%), Mexico 519 deaths (down 13.93%), Peru 338 deaths (down 3.7%), and Colombia 212 deaths (up 7.07%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 5,361. This accounts for 35.8 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 14,973. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 5,985 deaths.
