This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, five countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), Israel, India, Indonesia, and Lebanon. A total of 187 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Thursday, March 23, 2023, representing a weekly growth of over 28.57 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 188.24 percent. Worldometer recorded 98 deaths in this country, a 10.91 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Israel follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 93.75 percent. Daily data shows a 6.9% increase in deaths compared to the previous day, with 29 deaths recorded.
Furthermore, deaths in India increased by 76.92%, deaths in Indonesia increased by 36.84%, and deaths in Lebanon increased by 28.57%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 258 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 39.29% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Iran (Islamic Republic) reported 98 deaths (up 188.24%), the Philippines reported 58 deaths (down 4.92%), South Korea reported 56 deaths (down 20%), and Israel reported 31 deaths (up 93.75%).
A total of 566 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 18.8 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 3,011 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 662 deaths.
