The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.62 million cases by Saturday, August 27, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 2.08 percent. GISAID recorded 1.59 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.78 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is the United Kingdom, which recorded 0.51 percent more Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the UK increased by 0.09 percent compared to the previous day.
Omicron cases in Germany increased by 0.43 percent to 413,730 compared to the previous week. France reported 260,880 Omicron cases (up 1.45 percent), and Japan saw a 6.46 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 186,120 compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 19,957, a 0.89 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
